Who Told You to Dream Smaller?
Published October 2026
Can I ask you a question?
Who told you to dream smaller?
As children we're encouraged to imagine extraordinary futures.
Astronaut.
Vet.
Business owner.
Explorer.
Almost anything seems possible.
Yet somewhere along the way, many of us quietly begin editing those dreams until they fit our current circumstances.
Being Realistic
To be clear, there's nothing wrong with being realistic.
Bills have to be paid.
Families have to be supported.
Responsibilities matter.
The problem begins when today's reality starts defining tomorrow's possibilities.
Those aren't the same thing.
A Different Way to Think
For years I thought I had to choose between being sensible and having bigger ambitions.
Eventually I realised there was a third option.
I could stay sensible...
...while quietly building a future with more choices.
That doesn't happen overnight.
It happens one decision at a time.
Dreams Need Foundations
I've come to believe that dreams aren't achieved by dreaming harder.
They're achieved by building stronger foundations.
Learning new skills.
Creating additional income.
Investing in relationships.
Improving your health.
Each one expands what's possible.
The Future Isn't Finished Yet
One of the greatest lessons life has taught me is that today's circumstances are not a life sentence.
They're simply today's circumstances.
Given enough time, consistent effort has an extraordinary ability to change what's possible.
One Last Question
So perhaps the question isn't:
"Should I dream smaller?"
Perhaps it's:
"What can I start building today that will make those dreams possible tomorrow?"
Don't shrink your dreams to fit your means.
Start building the life that makes those dreams possible.
